The Appalachian National Scenic Trail, generally known as
the Appalachian Trail or simply the A.T., is a marked hiking trail in the
eastern United States extending between Springer Mountain in Georgia and Mount
Katahdin in Maine. The precise length of the trail changes over time as trails
are modified or rerouted. The total length is approximately 2,200 miles. The
trail passes through the states of Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee,
Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York,
Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.
Hikers that try to complete the trail in one season are
called thru-hikers. Some hikers start in Georgia and travel north (NOBO's) to
Maine or some start in Maine and travel south to Georgia (SOBO's). I will be
traveling to Maine June 25th and traveling south to Georgia. I will thru-hike
the trail and estimating that this will take me about 4.5 months to complete. I
will stop and resupply about every 5 to 6 days as needed for food. I hope to
update this blog about once per week.
